CRP-T112: Ceramics Soap Dish and Soap-making Workshop

Just in time for Mother’s Day, this two-session workshop will have participants working in the ceramics studio and the classroom at Makersmiths-Purcellville to make ceramic soap dishes and luxury soaps to give to someone special (or keep for themselves).

Session One: April 24 from 5pm-8pm. Participants will learn how to create soap dishes using the slab roller, clay cutters, needle tools and cone 6 clay to create ceramic soap dishes. The dishes will be bisque fired that week so that the dishes will be ready to glaze in session two. In session one, participants will also learn how to make lavender-chamomile, honey-almond and glycerin soaps as Mother's Day gifts. We will use a melt and pour soap-making process, adding a variety of scents and lavender or honey made locally, and then we will pour the soap into molds that will create fun soap shapes that anyone will love.

Session Two: May 3 from 1pm-3pm. Participants will select and use glaze to decorate their dish forms that were made from the previous session. The pieces will be fired that week and returned to participants in time for Mother’s Day. 

Please bring an apron to the workshop sessions. The instructor will provide each student with cone 6 clay, ceramics tools, and soap-making materials.
