In this class we will discuss techniques for building your own cutting boards in several different styles.
The purpose of this class is to learn the fundamental skills, strategies and pitfalls of building a high quality cutting board. We will discuss the use of the jointer, planer, table saw, drum sander and router so that you will be able to use these on your own builds.
You do not need to be red tool certified in the wood shop to take this class, but you would need the red tool certification to work in the wood shop independently.
For the class we will be building a simple face grain cutting board that will ultimately be donated to the Makersmiths Makers Market fundraiser event on Saturday 10/11 as a silent auction item. We will work through how to prepare, cut, build, glue and finish the board, as well as discuss some techniques for building end grain boards and creating advanced designs (time permitting). This is a 3 hour, single session class.
Please note: This is NOT a make and take class. At the the end of this class, you will NOT go home with an example board.
Prerequisites: All materials will be provided. Attendees should wear shop appropriate clothing as we will be operating equipment and as always, safety is the priority.
