This fun, hands-on workshop for youth is an introduction to microprocessors that is designed for ages 12+ and their parents. For every registered adult, they may bring a youth ages 12+. This class will be held in the Electronics lab classroom.
Participants will be introduced to circuits, programming and the purposes of microcontrollers that read inputs from sensors and turn those inputs into outputs to make something work, such as lighting up a light bulb or making a sound.
During the workshop, participants will complete two projects:
Fun, friendly competition activities will include seeing who has the fastest reaction time and working with others to complete a musical piece using Theremins.
Pre-requisite: It is not necessary to have computer programming skills, but one should have basic skills operating a computer. Please bring a personally owned laptop that you have rights to install software. You will use that laptop in class both days.
Materials provided: The instructor will provide a handout of resources and basic information about microcontrollers and activity kits to use during the workshop.
