Join us at Makersmiths for a fun and creative sewing course where you'll learn how to get started with a sewing pattern.

The course is split into three sessions:

  • Session 1 focuses on pattern understanding, measuring, sizing, fabric selection, pattern reading, and making alterations to your pattern.
  • Session 2 is dedicated to cutting out the pattern pieces.
  • Session 3 is garment assembly.

Each session can be taken individually to focus on skills you want to learn or you may sign up for all three sessions.

SESSION 2 - For Session 2, students must have the pattern and fabric ready for their project.  Sewing equipment will be provided.

About the sewing pattern:
  • The instructor will be using a Palazzo Wrap Pants pattern with the option to add a matching top to transform your look into a swimsuit cover-up.
  • Students can purchase the same Palazzo Wrap Pants pattern that the instructor will be using from Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/listing/1397060428/palazzo-wrap-pants-sewing-pattern).
  • Students can choose to add a top with options available here:
    • https://www.etsy.com/listing/1392018260/top-sewing-pattern-xs-xxxl-tie-back-top
  • If students do not want to use the Palazzo Wrap Pants pattern, they may select a pattern from their own choosing, just make sure the pattern is appropriate for your sewing skill level.
  • While this class provides the foundational skills, additional time may be needed to complete your project depending on the complexity of the pattern/garment.

Prerequisites: Some working knowledge of sewing. If choosing your own pattern, please make sure it is equal to your sewing skill level.

This class will meet in the Green Room at the Purcellville location.

Participants must fill out a waiver form or have a completed waiver form on file.
