Model Rocket Design Workshop

Do you ever see a cardboard tube and immediately want to build a rocket from it? No? That needs to change, so come to the rocket design class and bring a tube that you have lying around (should be >25 mm/1" in diameter and less than 150 g/5 oz). If you don't have one, don't worry, the instructor will bring a nice selection.

If you've never built or flown a model rocket, you will learn everything needed to get started, and more!

We will go over all the steps needed to design a rocket from an existing tube, such as:

  • How a model rocket works and the parts needed to make it fly safely,
  • Which of those parts you can make using hand tools, a 3D printer, a laser or a CNC mill, at home or at Makersmiths,
  • Rocket stability, so it will fly straight, and
  • Performance, so you can choose the right motor and make sure it lands on your launch site.

Please bring a laptop or tablet with OpenRocket (https://openrocket.info/ ) installed.

We will meet in the basement classroom at the Leesburg location.

If not a Member of Makersmiths, a liability waiver will need to be signed before taking the class - https://waiver.fr/p-NVPOj.
