Red Tool Introduction to the Axidraw Pen Plotter

The AxiDraw is a simple desktop CNC used to guide a pen (or another implement mounted in the pen holder) along the set of vector lines, curves, and paths that you ask it to follow. It is capable of drawing essentially anything that can be composed from a set of lines.

In this class, you will:

• See examples and demonstrations of the many ways pen plotters can be used for creative drawing.
• Learn to safely set up, operate, & break down the Axidraw.
• Use the Inkscape 'Trace Bitmap' tool to trace photographic images into vector paths.
• Use Inkscape extensions to create different types of fills and hatches for your images and successfully print with the Axidraw.
• Create a 4"x 6" vector drawing. If you have a particular image you'd like to to create a vector from, please email the instructor prior to the day of class. This will help the class run more smoothly.

All materials will be provided.

While a basic knowledge of Inkscape software is helpful, it is not required.
