In this class we will craft a Dopp Bag which is a rectangular toiletry bag with a zipper, handle, and tab. We’ll be crafting this bag from scratch using a Cognac-colored Pull-Up leather (not pictured but very similar). Pull-up leather is the type of leather that has a variety of colors and when bent will change its color. Because of its tanning process, this leather cannot be laser cut and so we will be hand pricking and stitching this bag.
Skills worked on in this class:
Cutting leather from a template
Punching stitch holes
Hand stitching
Attaching a zipper
Working with Pull-Up leather (Chrome tanned)
Prerequisites: No prior leatherworking experience necessary, but this is a bit more than a beginner class but less than a typical advanced level class. If you are unable to finish the project within the class timeframe, you can take the project home to finish. Makersmiths Members are welcome to use the tools in the leatherworking shop to finish their project.
This class will meet in the main room at MS-L.
