Learn to make a leather belt! In this make & take class, students will work through the process of making a simple leather belt from start to finish. We will cover the basics of leather working, as well as the tools and techniques needed for the project.
This is a great project for a beginner leather crafter or someone who wants hands-on fun in making a custom belt. We will start with a hide of pre-dyed leather and go through the steps of measuring, cutting, edging, and assembly.
Skills you will learn in this class:
Cutting down straps from a full hide of leather
Edging including beveling and burnishing
Skiving and punching leather
Conditioning and Basic Leather Care
Attaching hardware (Chicago screws will be used)
Additional information will be discussed but not actually done such as dying, riveting, and stitching.
You will go home with a finished belt that should fit you perfectly. If you would like to make a belt for someone else, please be sure to bring a waist measurement.
All tools and hardware will be provided.
Prerequisites: None. Just be curious and willing to learn.
