MS-L Leatherworking & Laser - Make a laser cut key chain

Learn to make a leather key chain utilizing both the Co2 Lasers and traditional leatherworking skills. We will cover some helpful information about cutting leather on the laser cutters and the benefits or downsides of it, but this class won’t actively be using the laser cutter.

Pre-cut key chains will be provided with an assortment of engraved designs to choose from. Each student will finish the key chains themselves including dying, edging, and assembly.

You will go home with a finished key chain as well as a template to make more key chains in the future. 

Skills you will learn in this class:

• Basics of Laser Cutting on leather. Do’s and Don’ts

• Dying the leather with Water Stain dye 
• Beveling and Edge Burnishing 
• Conditioning and Basic Leather Care 
• Assembling with a Chicago screw or rivet
• Additional Q&A about working with laser cutters and leather 

All tools, leather, and hardware will be provided.

Prerequisites: None. You will need to take the red tool class for the Thunder laser cutters to make more key chains; this class won’t actively be using the laser cutter itself.

This class will meet in the classroom at MS-L.
