Makersmiths, Inc. members wishing to use the Blast Cabinet, Powder Coating, or small oven in the Blast/Paint/Powder room in Purcellville must complete a course of orientation and training and demonstrate competence with each tool before their name will be placed on the approved list of machine operators.

This course covers Red Tool Blast Cabinet and Powder Coating – Basics

Prerequisites - Must be 18 or older and have an interest in the topic.

Class size is limited to four students. The class is a minimum of two hours but may take longer.

The class will start with a briefing and safety overview in the Green Room and then move to the Blast/Powder/Paint room at Makersmiths in Purcellville for hands-on experience. A handout and test piece will be provided. If you have a test or scrap you want to test on, please contact the instructor ahead of time to coordinate.

To prepare for class, please do the following:

    - Wear closed-toe shoes, open-toed shoes are not allowed in the shop.
    - Ensure you are not wearing loose clothing, have long unconfined hair, or dangling jewelry.
    - This is potentially messy work, please wear appropriate clothing that you do not mind getting dirty.
    - You will need an N95 mask and hearing protection. Eye protection is optional, but recommended. We have goggles available for you to wear if you do not bring your own.
