This red tool CnC basic course will cover the safety and operation of our "Big Red" CnC router in Makersmiths Leesburg.

We will meet in the classroom and Big Red Room. During the session, students will make a take-home plaque.

Pre-requisites:

  • Bring a laptop with the program VCarve installed (optional, but it will be very helpful).
  • You should have knowledge of vector graphics. We will cover their conversion to G-code and safety/setup and operation of Big Red to make the object.

IMPORTANT: Some familiarity with vector drawing, 3D drawing and/or CNC is helpful.  If you don’t already have these, attend a vector drawing class when it is held, watch the Youtube videos linked to in the Makersmiths CNC Overview presentation in the Wiki and other videos on basic wood CNC topics.  Setting up and running the machine is very small part of the overall process of bringing your designs to life.
