Are you ready to take your making to the next level? Computer Numerical Control (CnC) is one of the early forms of automated manufacturing and it allows creation of items ranging from customized wall hangings through furniture. This class is a two-part sequence. During this first class, we will cover how to create a graphic for eventual finish using “Big Red”, the CnC machine at Leesburg. If you’re already familiar with vector graphics and g-code, you only have to sign up for the second class (on March 24th) that focuses on setting up and operating Big Red. After taking class #2, students will need to demonstrate their skill on Big Red in person before using it.
This first class is considered a beginner class, though some knowledge of graphics programs is useful. Prior to the class session, students will need to download the latest versions of Inkscape and VCarve. Please contact the instructor, Tom.Hill@makersmiths.org if you have questions about how to obtain this software. Students will also need to have a Google-meetup-capable computer (video and audio) since the class will be held through Google meetup video conference. If students have two machines (one to view the online class and one for their own work at the same time) it may be helpful.
