MS-P Exotic Wood Cutting Boards - Make and Take

In this private (invited participants only) make-and-take workshop in the wood shop at Makersmiths-Purcellville, each person will create their own exotic wood cutting board approximately 13” x 13” x 3/4" thick. Bring safety glasses, hearing protection, dust mask if you have them. They will be provided otherwise. Some wood working experience is helpful but not necessary. All materials and tools are provided. Restricted to those ages 18 and older.

SESSION 1 - Sunday March 8, 2020 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm Instruction will begin in the wood shop where each person will select their boards from a variety of exotic and rare hard woods to choose from. Exotic and rare woods are chosen based on availability (each session may differ). Some of these woods will include: Purple Heart, Padauk, Sapele, and Canarywood. The instructor will also have some Black Walnut, Maple, and Cherry available. Feel free to bring your own special hardwood if desired. Next, we will plane and cut the boards to the final dimensions. Finally, we will glue the boards so they are ready for the next session.

SESSION 2 - Sunday March 15, 2020 from 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm We will begin by removing the boards from the glue-up clamps, then flatten them as needed using a planer or drum sander. Next, we will finalize the shape of the board using a jigsaw, drill press, and/or router table. Finally, each person will complete their board by sanding and applying a cutting board oil/wax mixture. These cutting boards will be ready to use when you leave the shop!
