Nearly all of the pictures that we see or use on a daily basis are raster images. But there is another type of image called vector that's essential for get the most out of the laser, CNC and vinyl cutting tools available at Makersmiths. This is a one evening introductory class which covers the basics and essentials of drawing in Inkscape so that you can begin drawing for those machines.
In this class we will:
1. Explain the key differences between raster and vector as well as the uses for each
2. Introduce you to objects, paths, strokes, nodes and how to manipulate each to draw
3. Show you how to take an existing raster drawing, turn it into a vector and manipulate it for cutting
There will be follow on classes to this one which cover the specifics of drawing for specific machines.
***NOTE: You need basic computer skills and will need to bring a laptop to this class, preferably with Inkscape pre-installed. This is the first of a series of classes, but is not a course so that attendees can sign up for one, some or all of the options.
